What is Gallbladder Cancer --- By: Joshua kim

Gallbladder cancer is a rare form of cancer that occurs in the gallbladder, a small organ located beneath the liver. This cancer is difficult to detect in its early stages, as many of the symptoms mimic those of other conditions such as gallstones. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, jaundice, nausea, and unexplained weight loss. The most common risk factors for gallbladder cancer include gallstones, chronic inflammation, obesity, and a family history of the disease.

Diagnosing gallbladder cancer usually requires imaging tests like ultrasound or CT scans, followed by a biopsy to confirm the presence of cancer. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the gallbladder and surrounding tissue, although this is only possible if the cancer has not spread too far. In advanced stages, chemotherapy or radiation therapy may be used to control the disease.

Because gallbladder cancer is so rare and symptoms often overlap with other conditions, early detection is challenging. Regular screenings and prompt attention to symptoms like abdominal pain or jaundice can help improve outcomes for those at risk.
