Bowel cancer, also known as colon cancer, is a type of cancer that starts in the large bowel (colon) and the back passage (rectum). It is also known as colorectal cancer. The treatment depends on where the cancer starts in your bowel. The bowel is split into two parts: the small bowel and the large bowel. The large bowel includes the colon, the rectum and the bowel opening. The general form of the cancer starts in the large bowel.

There are three main symptoms of bowel cancer: Blood in feces, changes in bowel habit, and tummy pain. Please take into account that having these symptoms don’t necessarily mean being diagnosed with cancer, as there are other diseases that have these symptoms.

Bowel cancer is most commonly diagnosed in countries such as Southern Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and Northern Europe. Some causes of the cancer include a diet in low fiber, high red meat consumption(Common is Europe and Aus), obesity, smoking, etc. Genetics can be a partial factor as well. However, the exact cause of bowel cancer remains relatively unknown. As always, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and eating a healthy diet is crucial to prevent bowel cancer or any type of cancer in general!
