The most common type of gastrointestinal cancers (GI) is esophageal cancer,” states yalemedicine.org. Exactly what is esophageal cancer, and what causes it? Esophageal, as you just read, is the most common type of GI, or digestive cancer. It is a type of cancer in the esophagus, a tube-like structure that brings food to the stomach. It is caused by cells that multiply uncontrollably in the esophagus. It is mostly caused by the following:


  • Obesity or overweight

  • Smoking

  • Tobacco and alcohol overuse or use at all

  • Bad diet

  • Genetics

  • Chronic heartbeat

Luckily, all of these causes can be prevented by a variety of habits. Habits that include daily exercise or body movement, a good diet that includes all six nutrients (fats, proteins, carbohydrates, water, vitamins, minerals). Lowering or stopping all use of alcohol and tobacco is one of the best and main habits to reduce the chance of cancer. Smoking is also very bad for your long-term well-being; like tobacco and alcohol, excessive smoking can cause long-term health issues and lead to different types of cancer. Even smaller things like keeping a healthy/balanced weight or avoiding very hot drinks like coffee or tea can significantly reduce risks!

By creating a healthier lifestyle for you and people who have higher chances of cancer, it can be a life-saving experience. There are so many other ways to prevent cancer, like getting enough sleep, spending more time outside, avoiding second-hand smoking, etc. By following these habits, you can have a whole new life. You will feel better, look better, and your body will be much healthier.
