
Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, is a growth of cancerous cells in the stomach. Our stomachs are located in the upper middle of our bellies, just below the ribs. The function of the stomach is to break down and digest food. Fun fact: Stomach cancer can start anywhere in the stomach. So when it comes to treatment, healthcare providers need to correctly locate the part of the stomach that contains the cancerous cells. Oftentimes, the process of locating the cancer cells can be quite difficult! Optimistically speaking, more stomach cancer can be cured successfully if diagnosed in its early or middle stages. However, stomach cancer that grows through the stomach wall or spreads to other parts of the are difficult to cure. Some symptoms of stomach cancer are:Trouble swallowing, belly pain, bloating after eating, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, etc (Mayo clinic). In 2020, Stomach cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths behind lung cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer(National Cancer Institute). Maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly is crucial to prevent stomach cancer! If you live a healthy lifestyle, that would not only prevent you from stomach cancer, but any cancer in general!
