Small intestine cancer is a rare form of cancer that affects the small intestine, which is responsible for nutrient absorption. The most common type of small intestine cancer is adenocarcinoma, but lymphomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) also occur. Risk factors include inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and celiac disease, genetic conditions like Lynch syndrome, and a history of radiation therapy.

Symptoms are often vague, including abdominal pain, weight loss, and changes in bowel movements. Because of these nonspecific symptoms, the disease is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Diagnosis typically involves imaging techniques such as CT scans, MRIs, and sometimes endoscopy to directly view the small intestine.

Treatment for small intestine cancer usually involves surgery to remove the tumor, followed by chemotherapy or radiation if the cancer has spread. The prognosis depends on the stage at diagnosis, and the survival rate is higher for early-stage cancers.
