One Minute Read: Appendiceal Cancer---By: Jessica Yao

Appendiceal cancer is a rare type of GI cancer that affects the appendix. It often begins as a small tumor and can spread throughout the abdominal cavity if untreated.

Symptoms may mimic appendicitis, such as abdominal pain and swelling. Diagnosis usually occurs after surgery for suspected appendicitis.

Surgical removal of the appendix and surrounding tissues is the most common treatment. Chemotherapy may be needed for advanced cases. Because it is so rare, appendiceal cancer can be difficult to diagnose early, so prompt attention to abdominal pain is crucial.
