
Mongolia has one of the highest rates of GI cancer in the world. In 2020, an estimated 32.5 new cases were found in every 100,000 population. In addition, 80% of the cases are diagnosed in the late stages. One of the risk factors that caused such a high diagnosis rate was the lack of early detection. Mongolia’s early detection of GI cancer began in 2022, and before that, most cases were discovered very late. Another key factor is the limited resources and poor health education. Many of Mongolia’s rural areas limit access to health resources and education on this topic. Mongolian diet is also a major key factor in GI cancers. Excessive salt intake and lack of balanced fruits and vegetables can lead to a higher chance of getting GI cancer. Fortunately, in recent years, Mongolia’s government has been addressing this high rate of GI cancer. The government is providing more nationwide screening programs to detect this cancer earlier. They are also expanding their international partnership to establish and regulate medical products and medicines.
